Basic Information of Rayagada District

Rayagada is a tribal dominated district consisting tribal people more than 56% of total population of the district. The geographical area of the district is 758788 ha. which constitutes about 4% of the total land area of the state. Out of the net sown area of 234736 ha, it gets irrigation in an area of 54664 ha. and the district is with a cropping intensity of 136%. The economy of Rayagada district is agrarian in nature and agriculture supports about 78 % of the total workforce of the district. The district consists of two sub-divisions i.e. Rayagada and Gunupur, eleven Blocks, viz. Rayagada, Kashipur, Gunupur, Bissam Cuttack, Kolonar, Kalyansinghpur, Gudari, Padmapur, Ramanaguda, Muniguda and Chandrapur. Rayagada and Gunupur are the two Municipality areas in the district and one NAC i.e., Gudari town and 2671 villages. Paddy, cotton, maize, finger millet, arhar, green gram, black gram, horse gram, sunflower, groundnut, mustard, mango, cashew, pineapple, custard apple etc. are the major crops grown in the district.
